I’ve been sitting on this news for like two weeks now and I finally announced it today!
After I won Best Journeyman at Nishi Fest, I was on top of the world. I didn’t think I could be any prouder. I immediately emailed both Angelic Convention Online and Anime Frontier that I would have to drop out of their respective cosplay contests because Seraphine was now retired from competition. (Entering her again would be considered sandbagging and very unsportsmanlike!) I was saddened I wouldn’t get to participate, but excited to watch a cosplay contest as a spectator for the first time in a while. Little did I know that was going to change very soon!
During the week following Nishi Fest, I received an email from someone at Anime Frontier. They said they had heard that I had wanted to compete/participate in the contest but had to drop out, so they asked if I would be interested in joining as one of the guest judges. How could I say no!?
Of course, I immediately said yes and we did all the little business stuff that has to occur for these sorts of things to happen. I wanted to wait a little bit to announce the news because I wanted them to make it official first.
Completely unrelated, I was in our apartment business office printing off violin sheet music in the hopes of playing violin as both Sailor Neptune (Sailor Moon) and Kaori Miyazono (Your Lie in April) at Anime Frontier. I was trying to think of more fun anime songs to learn and print off when I decided to check out the Anime Frontier guest list for inspiration. I figured I’d look at the animes some of the guests were in and pick some good songs from them.
Well, I got extremely distracted and dropped everything I was doing because lo’ and behold, it was my own face on the guest page! I didn’t realize they had added me. (It helped that they’re all listed alphabetically, so I’m very close to the top!) So naturally, I had to grab as many screenshots as I possibly could for posterity and pinch myself that this was indeed happening.
All that longwinded story was to say that I am going to be a judge for the Anime Frontier Masquerade. The contest will be Saturday, December 4, at 8pm in Ballroom AB according to the panel schedule.
I cannot wait to see all the talented cosplayers and see all their craftsmanship up close! Not to mention watch all the performances!
Saturday is bound to be a very tiring day, but I am extremely hyped for it! Hope to see you there!
