So you want to cosplay and you want to do it on the cheap. What can you do? Well, there’s actually lots you can do. You can wait for sales, become a coupon hoarder, and buy in bulk. You could buy a readymade cosplay on one of the many cosplay stores online (infinitely cheaper than making something from scratch). One other way? Making My Maria Calavera Cosplay

As soon as I saw the episode that featured young Maria Calavera, a dual-scythe-wielding, silver-eyed all-around badass, I knew I wanted to cosplay her. Not only was her character incredibly fascinating, but her costume design was beautiful. I loved her colors, the Tabasco dress inspired attire, and all the little nods to Dia de los Muertos. Making My Korra Cosplay

Back in February I announced I would be doing a Korra cosplay, specifically her Book 4 outfit. Unlike most cosplays I’ve done in the past, this was the only one where I didn’t have a single item beforehand that could be useful for the costume. Usually there’s shoes or some shorts or something to use as a jumping off point, but this time there wasn’t anything. Except my hair. Hurray dark-colored hair and tan skin! I got that going for me. Making My Wanda Maximoff Cosplay

For Halloween – specifically the Halloween party at work – I wanted to do something recognizable while still being SFW. Lots of my cosplays can be pretty esoteric to people who don’t watch the same shows or play the same games as I do. As luck would have it, a lot of us at the company actually went and watched Avengers 2: Age of Ultron as part of a culture club event when it first came out. I couldn’t really see myself making a low-budget Black Widow in time (and didn’t feel like gender-bending another Avenger) so I went with Wanda Maximoff.
